Your desktop wallpaper has nothing to do with AOL, it's on your pc. Any image that is saved to your computer can be used as your wallpaper.
In XP right-click an empty spot on your desktop, click Properties, click Desktop, click Browse, navigate to the pic you want as your wallpaper, double-click it, click Apply, click OK.
In Vista, the process is similar.
If you mean the background image for AOL, look for Settings or Preferences or Options to select the image you want
